In Velyki Komiaty we first found an abandoned synagogue being used as a barn.  The “owner” of the property apparently wanted something done about the decrepit synagogue.  It was not clear how he became the owner of the land on which the synagogue sat nor was it clear why someone should repair or demolish a building that he seemed to be using for storage. The school which had been adjacent to the synagogue collapsed about five years ago leaving behind only the foundation.

The cemetery ran down a long, narrow field that was fenced but had an unlocked gate.  There were perhaps 50-100 stones that were badly weathered and unremarkable.  While at the cemetery we had plenty of local assistance.
