Rava Rus’ka

There is a long and complicated story about the tombstones of Rava Rus’ka. Suffice it to say that when I visited in 2009, the stones that had previously been used as pavement had been removed from the streets and some fragments were piled by the side of the road. All I saw were fragments, although there may have been whole stones or larger pieces that had been removed earlier and moved to a more suitable location.

I did inquire at the mayor’s office about the status of the project to remove the stones and to find a proper resting place for them, and I was directed to the area depicted in the photos. I have to assume that if the mayor’s office had had something less embarrassing to show me, the local authorities would certainly have done that.
