Bolekhiv

When I visited Bolekhiv in 2009 the cemetery stood open and unprotected with numerous, well-traveled paths that cut though it. There were no particular signs of neglect or vandalism, but the possibility existed. When I next visited in 2010, the entire cemetery had been secured very well with a high fence, locked gate, and on-site caretaker family.

The tombstone art displayed on the stones in Bolekhiv is the most impressive of any of the locations listed on this website. The artwork on some of the stones is simply exquisite.
